This is a summary of our plans in Italy. Basically, we leave DFW Airport on Friday afternoon, Jan 28, 2005 at 1:05 pm, and return on Sunday night, Feb 6 at 10:43 pm.
We arrive in Rome Saturday morning. We'll spend 3 nights in Rome, then take a train on Tues evening Feb 1 to Florence. We'll spend 5 nights in Florence with probably a couple of side trips by car to San Gimignano and some other place TBD. We leave Florence for home at the crack of dawn 7:15am Sunday. We have a layover in Paris that I was able to stretch to just over 6 hours. So we'll spend a couple of hours roaming around Paris - probably have lunch on the Eiffel Tower. Then back on a plane for Atlanta and DFW.
I'll have a rental GSM cellphone with an Italy number: (+39)
333-527-1606
Call if you need, but remember we aren't in Italy to spend time talking on the
phone. There will be churches & museums where we won't answer. It has
voicemail, but I may not learn how to retrieve it. (If you can believe
that! ;-)
I'll try to check email once or twice. I have a TMobile wireless hotspot subscription that works a few places in Rome & Florence, plus many airport/transit lounges. The hotel in Florence supposedly has "high speed" internet in rooms. But another description says it has dialup connections. Either way, it probably costs a hefty surcharge rate.
To dial Italy from USA, dial 011+39 plus the number. (I.E.
011-39-333-527-1606) FYI, Italian
telephone numbers vary in length and some numbers can look confusing. Plus
area codes often have leading zeros in print, but you drop the zeros to dial.
Note time zone in Italy/France is GMT+1, 7 hours later than Dallas. Noon
CST = 7 pm Italy.
