Venice Grand Canal
The Grand Canal is the "Main Street" of Venice, running from the north end
near the train station and parking lots all the way to San Marco on the
southwest. There are only three bridges crossing it, at widely separated
locations. The only other way across is by the vaporetti water buses or
an occasional traghetto foot passenger ferry. The vaporetti run on
clockwork schedules just like a big city public transit system. The daylong
passes are a good deal if you're going to ride more than a couple of times in a
day.
