For our anniversary, we went for a quiet weekend getaway in the old historic town of Jefferson, Texas. Located about 15 miles north of Marshall in far northeast Texas, it's a historic old town that has developed quite a tourism industry. There are over 60 bed and breakfast inns. In 1971 a roughly forty-seven-block area containing fifty-six historic structures was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, some ten other buildings have been accorded National Register status, including the antebellum Excelsior Hotel and Planters Bank and Warehouse.
